In some instances, the ability to fully restore the original color of a handbag (especially leather) can be impeded by the amount of stitching whose color is in stark contrast to the color of the leather.
For instance, a red leather handbag with white stitching limits the ability of a leather cleaning specialist from applying a fine coat of new red leather dye to camouflage abrasions and/or deeply imbedded stains. Such a covering would also be absorbed by the white sticthing, thereby altering the original look of the handbag (which is sometimes desirable if the alternative is to lose use of the bag altogether).
There are certain "tricks" that can be employed to "mask" the stitching from the re-finishing spray - but these steps are extremely time-consuming and costly, and are therefore impractical unless justified by a bag whose value runs into the thousands of dollars.
